The IRC’s 28 US offices offer a variety of unpaid internship opportunities throughout the year. Prospective interns must go through the volunteer process and should be currently enrolled in an educational institution or a recent graduate. For more information, contact [email protected].
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum commitment of 10-15 (or more) hours during the work week, Mon-Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm.
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree program OR pursuing a relevant career direction.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate professionally in a multicultural setting.
- An interest in international and refugee issues.
- Reliability and flexibility.
- A willingness to learn about the diverse ethnic backgrounds of clients; and adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
To become an intern:
- Learn about the work of the IRC in Abilene by attending an information session. During this session the volunteer coordinator and interested intern will discuss internship requirements, what the intern would like to do, and the IRC office in Abilene. Book a general information session here.
- Complete a Volunteer Application. You will be contacted by the volunteer coordinator after you submit the application.
- Be interview by the volunteer coordinator and one of the managers. The volunteer coordinator will set up the interview.
- Complete a background check. Background Donation Link. To protect our clients, we require background checks for all our interns, and we ask interns to make a $30 donation to cover associated costs. Currently, 92% of our funding goes directly to our clients, and your help to cover this cost allows us to continue providing the best service possible. These donations can be made using the above link or at the IRC in Abilene office during normal business hours.
